10K-a-day Day 17: Making time to run

You might wonder why I haven’t posted the usual running selfie at the head of this blog. This photo was taken at about 6:20 this morning on the train to London Kings Cross from Wakefield Westgate. “Haven’t you had a chance to run yet today?” I hear you ask? The honest answer is, at the time of writing this paragraph, no, because I have only just boarded the 17:33 train back home.

If you are reading this I have definitely run my daily 10K because I am only going to post this after I have successfully achieved 10K. It’s just that I think I’ll get ahead by writing a pre run blog entry on the train (because I have a couple of hours to kill). In a way, it’s a pity I am not on an overnighter because it’s quite nice to run in London but I definitely would prefer to be home.

More news when I have finished my run but in the meantime, I will read a book.

21:45 Made it home OK, went out and did my 10K.  I don’t usually go out this late but needs must and I felt surprisingly good and it was (relatively) swift. Phew!

“As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, ‘This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so that they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.’”

10K-a-day Day 16: Didn’t you know? There’s no such thing as a Gruffalo!

Sometimes it’s nice to run along tried and trusted routes. “The Gruffalo” is a landmark that my wife and I used often to describe running routes. It has now been given a face lift in the shape of a fresh coat of paint and this particular monster looks magnificent.

It is situated by the mooring area at Woodlesford Locks and its a short run further along the canal to reach the former open cast mine which is now the St Aidan’s RSPB nature park. As I was running by today I passed the remains of a lock where the canal used to be before a flood that resulted in the open cast mine being destroyed and meant that the whole area was reconstructed and the canal diverted.

I know I have written before that I try and mix things up by doing different routes but the thing is, I always come back to this area again and again simply because it’s so beautiful.

All of this just a few miles from where I live, what’s not to like?

“‘Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God’s wonders. Do you know how God controls the clouds and makes his lightning flash? Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who is perfect in knowledge? You who swelter in your clothes when the land lies hushed under the south wind, can you join him in spreading out the skies, hard as a mirror of cast bronze?”
