What a difference a year makes

This time last year was probably one of the lowest moments in my running “career”.  I was attempting to do the parkrun “double”: Pontefract and Nostell Priory and when I got to the latter venue, I had to quickly return to the car because I could hardly stand up.  The problem was heart fibrillations which had been troubling me for some time and by then had got so bad that I had then to resign myself to no more strenuous exercise until I submitted myself to a surgical procedure called a “cardiac ablation”.   I had the operation on the 8th January last year and since then I have had no more symptoms and have been able to gradually make my way back to former fitness.

This is why today’s run was so special to me since I was not only able to do the Pontefract – Nostell double but I absolutely smashed it by running between the two venues being able to reach Nostell Priory 10 minutes before the start. A total 12 mile run incorporating two parkruns.

More training beckons with another parkrun tomorrow (maybe a slow one), and many more miles before London in April.
